Standard Model Making

The page describes what "Standard Model Making" is and helps staff determine if their making plans fall into this category.

If the subject you are organizing require students to use standard model making processes and equipment, and your subject has a small student cohort (i.e. less than 50 students), your subject can use the regular Maker Space job submission and machine use processes that are described on each Maker Space facility website and knowledge base.

Standard Model Making includes:

  • Scale architectural models

  • Concept models

  • Site models

  • Small objects and pieces of furniture (that don't require the use of the Machine Workshop)

To determine if your model making needs are 'standard' or 'non-standard' please complete the checklist below. If you answer YES to any of the questions your needs are non-standard.

  • Do you require your students to create models larger than typical architectural scale models such as concept models, site models, and final display models?

  • Does your subject have more than 50 students?

  • Do you require your studio to have a permanent space or semi-permanent space to build large models or structures?

  • Do you require usage of the Outdoor Design Build Area?

  • Do you require your students to use making processes that are not currently provided by Maker Spaces?

  • Do you require your students to use materials that are not currently approved for use in the Maker Spaces?

  • Do you require your students to complete a task that utilizes equipment and training in the Machine Workshop?

If you answered "YES" to any of the questions above please refer to the Non-standard Model Making section.
